PROJECT:

DECOLONIZING BODIES

2025-2026 | Funded by OxFam Canada

This project will document Yukon First Nation feminist art as it intersects with sexual and reproductive health.

For more information on this project, please reach out to the Project Coordinator, Kikchuks (Rae Mombourquette) at kikchoox@gmail.com

BACKGROUND

The project involves gathering images of various current works of Indigenous feminist art accompanied by a curated anthology of stories from Yukon First Nation women, two-spirit, trans, and queer folks. The accompanying stories will explore how residential schools and other institutions, such as sanitariums, have intergenerationally impacted Indigenous people’s experiences with menstruation, physical and sexual health, sexual identity, and sexualized violence

The activities of this project include:

  • Establishing an advisory group to guide this work

  • Liaising with Yukon First Nation artists to take high quality photographs of the art pieces

  • Outreach and interviewing to gather stories
