PROJECT:

INCORPORATING GENDER-BASED ANALYSIS IN IMPACT ASSESSMENTS

2024-2026 | Funded by Crown Indigenous-Relations and Northern Affairs Canada

The goal of this project was to better integrate gender-based analysis (GBA+) into Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes in the Yukon. This work was done in partnership with the Yukon Conservation Society (YCS) to explore how the Yukon Environmental Socio-Economic Assessment Board (YESAB) and the Water Board can be used to empower and strengthen underrepresented voices.

Through participatory research and focus groups, we aim to understand community members' knowledge of YESAB and the comfortability of submitting YESAB comments. By understanding community members' perspectives we aim to provide feedback for policy makers. Through our community engagement, we hope that we are able to increase individuals capacity to provide comments through YESAB, increase YCS’ ability to hold a GBA+ in our work and help YSWC amplify GBA+ concerns in environmental areas.
